I replaced the factory h/u with an alpine ina-w900 and now the back up sensors don't work. I did see a message on the factory h/u with the car in reverse saying park assist active. Is there a way to retain this or is it lost when changing the h/u?

It's lost. You may find other features lost as well.
I know in the XC90's with the fiberoptic connection, you cannot take the factory radio out of the vehicle, or even turn the ignition on with ANY of the audio parts disconnected or else you can have major computer issues. We had to dismantle the factory radio into a few pieces and relocate it within the dash, leave everything connected, including the factory amp, then bypass the speaker wires from the factory amp and hide another amp underneathe it.

Would relocating the factory deck with all connections except speaker lines work?
I'm thinking it would as there is probably just some sort of data signal passing through it for the back up sensor system. I don't think the beeps were coming through the speakers.

it's possible. All it takes is some time to try it out
