What do you guys think about running this amp at 1.2 ohms nominal on 3 12's in a sealed common chamber box, 2-3 batteries, 160 Amp alt? It is rated as 2 ohm stable. I'd like to run it on the 3 12's for daily without hurting it.

there is a mod for those to allow it to play 1ohm daily.

Do I need to call MTX? Will the mod effect SQ?

I'm sure there will be slightly higher distortion levels, but nothing major i would assume. probably not noticable to the ear.

Ask around on this forum more, I know lots of almost old skool guys on here used to run those modded.

theres a switch inside the amp that lets you run it at 1 ohm.

i've personally never tried it, but I thought you had to remove some resistors and do a few other little things

that turns the compression circuitry off IMO. you need to remove the Q240 chip

I will just do a reactive load test on the 3 12's. I think that as long as the amp sees more than 2 ohms it should be good?

Eric these amps love 1ohm. Just gotta remove the chip from the board I used to have a pic of it.

Hmmmmm. I'd really hate to screw this up. Who will do the mod? Is it something MTX warns against?

No, mtx would do it for you when you bought them.
