I have a question for all you trunkers. For those who compete in SPL comps; where in the car have you gained the most from appling sound deadening? I know the best bet is to apply in a specific area and then test. I have 2 problems. I don't have enough money to just waste sound deadener and I don't have a mic anywhere near me.

I compete in MWSPL which allows you to have doors/windows open. The mic is 12 over and 4 up on passenger side of windshield. I am loudest with drivers window down and everything else shut up. I was thinking maybe to start with the passenger door? What do you all think?

I've never seen deadening either of the doors hurt a vehicle no matter what type of vehicle it was in. I also had a gain of about 2 db when I found some vents in the trunk of my Escort and deadened over them with some Dynamat Extreme. I had to lift up the carpet along the side walls of the trunk and found vents on each side of the car that lead outside of the vehicle. So basically the trunk wasn't completely sealed off and since I had the box firing towards the rear I believe that's why it helped so much.

^ those vent are to let out cabin pressure when you close the trunk or car door. it will make it louder. i welded a plate over mine.
just make it hard to shut the car door when blower heater/air is on high, lol.

Hmmm.... I have a fully sealed off front firing trunk but I have never thought of the doorjamb vents. Being that they would let cabin pressure escape back into the trunk this might be a gain. Thanks guys.

I tested ea of the 4 doors I deadened and I gained .2 off drivers passenger/ 0 on the drivers door but didnt lose/.2 on right rear passenger/ .1 on drivers passenger door.

When I walk around the car I get the feeling that the front 2 doors will show a gain but with 2 layers or so.

Hope it helps

LOL... not a dang thing! I've been working on three other builds for the MidwestSPL season and haven't had time to touch my car other than cutting down the port to retune. As soon as I make some progress it will get posted!
